How the americano calculator works
An americano padel (or pickleball) session is fully determined by four
numbers: players, courts,
points per match and the pace of play. Each court
holds 4 players, so the calculator uses
min(courts, players ÷ 4) courts per round. The full
rotation — everyone partners everyone once — is N − 1
rounds for an even number of players and N rounds for odd
counts, exactly how our schedule generator builds it.
Duration is rounds × (points × minutes-per-point + changeover). All courts play in parallel, so adding courts doesn't extend the evening — it lets more people play the same number of rounds. A 24-point match at the default 0.4 minutes per point runs about 10 minutes, matching what clubs observe in practice.
Making an americano fit your booking
- Too long? Lower the points. Dropping 32 → 24 → 16 points cuts each round by ~3 minutes. See choosing 16, 24 or 32 points.
- Or cap the rounds. The leaderboard is valid after any number of rounds — 5 or 6 rounds is plenty of mixing for a casual night.
- Odd player count? The extra players rest on rotating byes; the calculator shows how many sit out per round. Fairness details in the odd-players guide.

Calculator FAQ
How long does an americano take?
Rule of thumb: a 24-point match runs about 10 minutes. An 8-player, 2-court americano is 7 rounds — roughly 85–90 minutes including changeovers. 12 players on 3 courts at 24 points needs about 2 h 20 min for the full rotation.
How many rounds should an americano have?
The full rotation is N−1 rounds for an even number of players (N rounds if odd) — that is when everyone has partnered everyone once. Any smaller number of rounds still produces a fair leaderboard, so cap rounds to fit your booking.
How many courts do I need?
One court per 4 players keeps everyone playing every round. With fewer courts the schedule still works — extra players rest on rotating byes each round.
How accurate is the minutes-per-point estimate?
Social padel and pickleball rallies average roughly 20–30 seconds including resets, so 0.4 min/point is a good default. Competitive groups play faster (0.3), beginners slower (0.5–0.6). Add a buffer for warm-up and the first-round shuffle.
