What an americano score sheet needs

A working americano score sheet is more than a grid of boxes. Because partners rotate every round, the sheet has to carry four things at once:

  • The round-by-round schedule — who partners whom, against whom, on which court, for every round. In a fair americano that’s the full rotation: N − 1 rounds for an even number of players (7 rounds for 8 players), N rounds for odd counts.
  • Court assignments — with 2+ courts, every match needs a court number so groups split up without discussion.
  • Rotating byes — when players don’t divide by four, the sheet must say who rests each round, decided up front so nobody rests twice before everyone rested once.
  • Per-player running totals — americano ranks individuals, not teams. After each match both players on a side write the same score into their own column; the highest running total wins the night.

The generator above builds all four from the same scheduling engine as our free web generator — the circle-method rotation with zero repeated partners until mathematically unavoidable, and strict-queue byes for odd counts.

How to use the sheet

  1. Choose players (4–24), courts and the points per match — 16, 24 or 32 for padel, 11 or 15 for pickleball rally scoring.
  2. Hit Print / Save as PDF. Only the sheet prints — black on white, sized for A4 and Letter portrait.
  3. Write each name next to a player number (P1–P24), pin the sheet to the fence, and fill in the two score boxes after every match.
  4. Copy each player’s score into their totals column as you go — a “—” already marks rest rounds. Sum the row for the final leaderboard.

Not sure the session fits your booking? Check rounds and duration first with the americano calculator, and see the odd-players guide for how rotating byes keep 5, 7 or 9-player groups fair.

Prefer zero paperwork? The free americano generator runs the same schedule with live score entry and an automatic leaderboard — no adding up, no arguments.

Score sheet FAQ

How do you keep score in americano?

Every rally scores one point — no games, no deuces. A match ends when the two sides’ scores add up to the target (16, 24 or 32 total points in padel; 11 or 15 in pickleball). Each player banks their own side’s score: win 14–10 and you add 14 to your personal total, the losers add 10. The player with the most points after all rounds wins.

How many rounds does an americano score sheet need for 8 players?

Seven. With an even number of players the full rotation is N − 1 rounds, so 8 players partner everyone exactly once in 7 rounds. On 2 courts all 8 play every round; on 1 court, 4 players rest on a rotating bye each round. The generator prints the exact 7-round schedule with score boxes.

Can I print a score sheet for an odd number of players?

Yes — any count from 4 to 24, including 5, 7, 9 or 11. Players who don’t fit on the courts rest on a rotating bye, and the sheet marks who rests in every round plus a “—” in their totals column, so byes stay fair and visible on paper.

Do I need a score sheet if I use the app?

No — the free web generator and the iOS app schedule the rounds, auto-fill score complements and keep the leaderboard live, so there’s nothing to add up. A printed sheet is a great backup for clubs that prefer paper, wet or sandy courts, or a dead phone battery.
